I'm Floating Away....

Yes, I'm still alive and kicking...
Update? There are none. That's why I haven't been blogging, reading, nadda, zip.
Little advice? If you have a job...keep it. There are none out there.
We had quite a storm yesterday. I've been involved in the process of what there plans are for my yard and across the street. They seem to feel if they purchase the vacant lot across the street where this flood zone goes, it will make it flow faster. I can't seem to convince them it's not THERE, the problem is too much water on THIS side trying to make it through the little culvert. They are looking at my side AFTER that. Doing work on personal property is the LAST thing they want to do. You can see the incoming from the right. Look at the left:
A culvert from the left and one coming down the middle. Two into one which merges with the other photo. The creek in this picture has eroded what was a basic 12" stream into a 4 foot deep gorge. And can I mow? Hell no. I'm trying to build a berm back there to stop water from my neighbors yard (railroad ties) We are going to end up digging a effin trench back there for the THIRD run off into the creek. The shed? This was the only dry spot in my yard when I got it.
Now it may have to be moved to the FRONT yard. Geesh. And to top it off, see the NEWLY landscaped red dirt and straw? Yes, he created even more run off. Don't disturb the ground people!! Please!
I'm becoming an expert. I am contacting the NC Soil & Environmental Crap because I heard they help people build rain gardens and wetland gardens. I think I have the perfect spot. Ya think?

16 Yeehahs!:
Can we come over and float paper boats in it?? It could be fun!!!
Hallie :)
That is unbelievable. And so wrong. And not fair. Okay. I'm done. I wish I could offer you some help on the job front, but it is just as dire up here. I hope you are getting to go to the lake some....
Oh mercy! That stinks. Well, I am GLAD to see you, though. :)
boy i feel for ya. i do know how ya feel. i wish i had suggestions. but when that kinda thing happened to us-- oh yes it did-- several times... in a different house... it was a living nightmare-- and we got flooded inside the house-- several times. it cost us furniture--carpet...walls... ugh, the list in unfathomable.
i am so sorry . i have never had to do what i'm sure you will have to do to your yard-- but i bet it aint cheap. will your home insurance help?
good luck.
ps-- is that really a creek? is there fish in it -- forgive me, i know i'm ate up. but you could maybe use river rock..or some other rock or stone-- to build up a "wall? and keep it ??
am i just an idiot when it comes to these things? go ahead, i can handle it, i've been called worse. :))
anyhow... if i lived closer i'd come help ya out.
welp-- have a good an evening as you can--
catchya later
I should be able to floart the kayak there pretty soon! YAY! I'm packing my bags and heading for your place. then Hallie can come and float paper boats down it too. What fun we will have.
But seriously...that sucks! What can you make people do though?!?
Looks like it's time for the rubber ducky race... I do feel for you. We had problems like yours when we lived in Bartlesville. It's disconcerting when you have white caps in your yard. More so when you have tried and tried to get the city to do what they were supposed to do.
Good luck. Maybe you will have better luck since everyone is so hot for wetland gardens.

Man, you would think someone would listen to you. You have been dealing with this forever it seems. But I do wish you would send of that rain my way....even after 23 days straight, we could use a little shower now. The summer will be here and we will be dry as a bone you wait and see. Sorry you are having such rotten luck. Maybe they would hire you?
Our kids would love it. Water, mud, that's right up their alley. I can see your aggravation though.
Glad to see you!
That's a mess! Keep small animals and kids away. Golly. Is this one of the those cases where each of the neighbors thinks he's right, but is only making the problem worse?
Good luck getting this taken care of. And I hope you don't need luck and the powers that be simply do the right thing.
You're right, anyone with a job is lucky. Hope you find one soon!
Hey Lady
Send some of that rain up to Ohio...
we had a slight sprinkle yesterday and are sure in need of more.
Then again, there is always that line... 'be careful what you ask for'. So maybe I should not actually ASK for the rain.

This is what happens when they over build an area. Soil and water conservation in your area should be able to help. Contact your county engineer. We can't move more that 2" of dirt with out a plan from the EPA and the county engineer...( each state/county is different) We have the sam problem, There was a golf course above our prooerty/lake....then the built houses on it! (go figure, why would anyone want golf balls flying around their windows?) anyway, they had runoff that came onto our property/lake and silt that filled our lake. EPA came running fast/ big no no here....have to have a plan, must reroute water, not into our lake, but where, no one could figure it out, not rocket science, water takes the easiest path... not in the plans/not on paper, nobody can do anything.... what a buch of CRAP!So we had to redig the ond to remove silt/fish kill...had to get permission from EPA/permit from city and county too! TO clean up someone else's mess!!!! I feel your pain....Hopefully they will get the message and fix your side of the street....but keep on pestering every township/council person/government entitiy that you can....go to the trouble shooters that are on the news....that really gets them going.
But look at New Orleans :) the rocket scientists built the thing below sea level....now that was a bright move.....so this is what you get with more government...they know the best thing for you.... which really isn't anything good at all!
Good night, Irene! Look out for bottles with notes floating by ...
Oh goodness we've gotten so much rain over here we don't know what to do with it any more. You have every right to be aggravated.
At this rate you can start charging people to float the rapids. That would be a way to make some extra income for you! :)
Do you live on the edge of the YADKIN RIVER?
